Objectives : To explore the effects of the emotional valence and intensity on task switching by comparing the reaction time of the drivers in the different emotional state.Learn the hidden switching cost in the task switching, it may help people choose the optimal strategy. It will be possible to avoid an accident to improve the efficiency of switching between the various tasks in driving. Previous studies have found that emotion will have an impact on task switching, thus we decide to study how the driver's task switching will be influenced by the emotional valence and intensity. Methods: Between subjects design using 2(Emotional valence:positive emotions and negative emotions)×2(Emotional intensity:high intensity and Low intensity) in switching loss as the dependent variable.Drivers as subjects were evoked emotions by face pictures in different states, the experimental procedure was generated by the E-prime according to task-cueing paradigm including task-repeat and task-switch trials. Then to study the switching cost in different emotion states by recording the reaction time. Results:Variance analysis of SPSS 19.0 showed that main effect of emotion valence was significant, F (1,73 ) =217.62, P<0.01 , positive emotion has promoted driver's task switching significantly , whereas negative emotion showed inhibition .The main effects of emotional intensity were significant, F (1,73 ) =4.95, P<0.05, that showed emotional intensity has a significant effect on driver's task switching. Further analysis shows that the interaction of emotion valence and emotional intensity was significant, F (1,73 ) =40.29, P<0.01. Positive emotion in high intensity was more significant than low intensity. Conclusion:The effect of emotion valence on task switching was significant:positive emotion could promote the performance of task switching, negative emotion could delay the performance. The main effects of emotional intensity were significant:Positive emotion in high intensity was more significant than low intensity;Negative emotion in higher intensity took more time in task switching than negative emotion in lower intensity.
