Pan Jinlian is one of well-known characters in " Water Margin"which is one of China's four masterpieces.From the beginning of the character image was born, she was dubbed as "whore, bitch, slut, hussy".And later the "Golden Lotus"and other classical novels not changed her infamy. In modern society, from Ouyang Yuqian's "Pan Jinlian" to Wei Minglun's "Pan Jinlian:the history of a woman's degradation",Pan's image in literature has been retreated and given new meanings,which reflects the changes in people's interpretation of old characters and stories.What's more, it is worth us thinking that the deep social cultural significance behind this transformation.Since 1927, Pan Jinlian began to appear on the screen in China. In 1980s, the creation of Chinese teleplay has made considerable progress, Pan has been active in the small screen from the big screen. The idea of this thesis was began under this background. The paper is mainly taken six Chinese mainland TV plays:"Water Margin" (1982), "New Biography of Pan Jinlian "(1988), "Water Margin"(998), "The hero Wu Song" (2000), "New Water Margin" (2011), "Wu Song"(2013) for text to analyze Pan's image in them. She is a woman who is both beauty and evil, smart and tough, clever and delicate, her image experienced different interpretations in different periods. AS such a controversial figure,her image has been recreated again and again, which is definitely a thought-provoking cultural phenomenon. The paper is taken the main plots in these plays for example to analyze deeply with a broad perspective and taken the changes in the development of the period and the status of women as starting point to answer the social and cultural significance behind Pan's changing images.The changing process of Pan's image is a microcosm of the public's changing concept of female desire to a certain extent.
