The Rewritten Image Of Pan Jinlian In Contemporary Literature

In Water Margin, Shi Naian created an adulteress-Pan Jinlian, and then in Jin Pingmei Mr. Xiaoxiao of Lanling described her as "the first prostitute in history", who was beautiful, lewd and vicious.Thereafter, the image of Pan Jinlian has attracted many scholars and artists to recreate and study. In different times,the images of Pan Jinlian are different. In the past,she was reviled and pitied, but now she begins to be understood, and becomes the object of consumption.The different creations of Pan Jinlian reflect the different viewpoints of authors, and also reflect the characteristics of different ages.This paper will study the new image of Pan Jinlian in contemporary literature,and analyse her personality characteristics and the causes of her tragedy in the different social systems.Pan Jinlian is a controversial character, and she has attracted many writers, artists and scholars to recreate and research for hundreds of years. Without doubt,this is a cultural phenomenon worth further research.
