| The<Li Bian> was an important philology work by Gu Aiji in Qing Dynasty which made a comprehensive and detailed study on irregular mixed radical of Chinese characters in volume VI. This volume not only summarized the development and change during the scribe changes of Chinese characters, listed frequently mixed radicals, but also referred to a large number of cases of the word for illustration, which provided precious materials for the study of scribing changes phenomena. However, Gu discussed the problem of scribing changes according to the small seal script of <Shuo Wen Jie Zi>. However, as for the analysis of some irregular mixed radical, it was not accurate and thorough enough, and was limited to the time span. With the enrichment of ancient writing materials, it was provided with mature condition for the study of the scribing changes. In order to have a more scientific and reasonable research on these erroneous mixed radicals, this paper studies the irregular mixed radical in the sixth volume of <Li Bian>, making the 540 radicals in <Shuo Wen Jie Zi> as prelude. In each volume, typical cases would be selected for detailing analysis based on newly unearthed text material and academic research results. The author discusses total of 49 radicals and the related 129 Chinese characters in volume VI of <Li Bian>, and summarizes the radical mixed type, analyzes the reason for the irregular mixed radical. Through the comparing the changes of the origin and development of character pattern, showing the dynamic process of irregular mixed radical, this paper has a more accurate and thorough understanding of irregular mixed radical phenomenon, and finds the phenomena and laws of the evolution of some Chinese characters, which can provide certain reference value for the study on the related issues. |
