A Report On The E-C Translation Of Conditional Sentences In The Loan And Pledge Agreement

Conditional sentence,as a common sentence pattern in English,is also common in business contract English to express assumptions.Numbers of conditional sentences in the Master Loan and Pledge Agreement between Marvel Light Holdings Limited and Equities First Holdings,LLC constitute an important part of the sentence structure in the Loan and Pledge Agreement.As the Loan and Pledge Agreement belongs to business contract,so the translation of conditional sentences plays a key role in translating business contracts.This report is based on the translation of the conditional sentences in the Agreement,focusing on the analysis of the conditional sentences in the Agreement from the perspective of explicit and implicit conditionals.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,the conditional sentences in the Agreement are translated by using such translation methods as literal translation and free translation.And E-C translation methods for typical types of conditional sentences are also summarized in this report.As the expressions of conditional sentences are different in English business contracts and Chinese ones,the types of conditional sentences as well as the fixed expressions of English and Chinese conditional sentences should be distinguished during the process of translation.In order to convey the information of the source text accurately and effectively,and make the source text and the target text equivalent in terms of content,form,legal sense and legal effect,the expression habits of both the source languages and the target languages must be followed and respected,and translation methods and skills must be properly chosen.
