On Translation Of Terms With Chinese Characteristics In Public Administration Cases From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

The author participated in the translation project of translating Public Administration Cases,and translated source text of 20000 words into English.The report analyzes terms with Chinese characteristics and summarizes translation method used to translate those terms under the guidance of the skopos theory.The author participated in the translation project to translate Public Administration Case,and found that terms with Chinese characteristics are difficult and important in the source text.According to Xing Jie and Gan Lu's research on terms with Chinese characteristics,the author classifies terms with Chinese characteristics into three types:terms concerning economic and social phenomenon,terms concerning policies and idioms.To some degree,the fidelity and form of the translated text depends on its purpose,and target text should be coherent with source text.According to skopos theory,the author finds three rules of the skopos theory(skopos,coherence and fidelity)can guide translation of terms with Chinese characteristics.The author sums up such translation methods as literal translation,transliteration,free translation,literal translation with explanation,transliteration with explanation and cultural substitution that can be adopted to achieve different purposes.The author tries to make the target text internally coherent and consistent with the source text.
