The Impact Of Female Appearance And Evaluator's Emotion On Female Attractiveness Evaluation

Appearance attraction refers to the physical characteristics of the target person that can cause arousal of the individual and a sense of pleasure in the mind and may even motivate the individual to approach to the target.In the past,the study on the factors influencing the attractiveness of women's appearance was mainly carried out from two perspectives: the owner hypothesis and the observer hypothesis.What is the the owner hypothesis is how the characteristics of the owner itself would impact the body attractiveness.What is the observer hypothesis assume that the observer's characteristics or traits,such as the observer's physiological factors,emotional state,cognitive factors,and sociocultural factors will impact the body attractiveness.From the perspective of the owner hypothesis and the observer hypothesis,our studies will explore how the face and body of women and the emotional state of observer impact the female attractiveness evaluation.Study 1 explores how the size of eyes,the distance between the eyebrow and the eye and the distance between the eyes affect the attractiveness of the female face.50 undergraduates between 18 and 27 years old were selected as subjects,11 males and 39 females were selected,subjects will evaluate the images that the characteristics changes,the higher the score the more attractive.From the results of the study we can draw the following conclusions: the evaluation of female face will be reduced if the distance between eyebrow and eye is short;the evaluation of female face will be reduced if the size of eye become small;the evaluation of female face may not be enhance if the size of eye become large;the face will be evaluated most attractive when the distance between eyebrow and eye is equal to the eye's length.Study 2 explored the effect of body mass index(BMI)and waist-to-hip ratio(WHR)on the evaluation of female body attractiveness.A total of 106 subjects were enrolled in the questionnaire,including 76 boys and 30 girls,and the subjects were distributed between 18 and 27 years old.Subjects were scored from 0 to 9 points from the four aspects of physical attraction,youth,health,fertility,the higher score the more evident of this trait.From the results of the second study,the following conclusions can be drawn: compared with the waist-to-hip the body mass index is more important;this study does not appear on the 0.7 waist-to-hip ratio preferences,the female body evaluation will be significantly reduced when the waist-to-hip ratio beyond the normal values;overweight body weight will reduce the evaluation of female body attractiveness,but overweight weight will enhance the evaluation of fertility.Study 3 from the perspective of the observer,to explore the effect of subject's emotional state to the female attraction evaluation.Fifty-five male college students were selected as the subjects.The age distribution of the subjects was between 18 and 24 years old.The subjects were induced by the emotion-induced material,and the subjects were induced to have positive high-arousal emotion,positive low-arousal emotion,negative high-arousal emotion,negative low-arousal emotion and neutral emotion.After the success of emotional induction,the subjects will immediately evaluate the female face images.From the results of the study conclusions we can draw conclusion as follows: high-arousal emotions can magnify the response of the subjects,subjects will evaluate ugly face lower and beautiful face higher,but this effect do not arise on subjects who hold low-arousal emotion and neutral emotion.
