The physical self is self-consciousness related to body information, which is a part of the self-consciousness.Physical self-satisfaction refers to whether an individual is satisfied with the performance of various aspects of his/her body.Negative physical self(NPS)is an individual's negative perception of the body, negative emotional experience and corresponding behavioral regulation.Previously, there were few studies on female college students' weight perception, and there were few short-term interventions for body. Therefore, this study takes the female self-satisfaction as the main line of research, focusing on the weight of the body. The study used questionnaires to explore fat negative physical self female college students' weight perception and tested the effect of a short-term intervention on body dissatisfaction by two experiments.Study 1 focused on weight perception of female college students with fat negative physical self.First use the Negative Physical Self Scale-fat(NPSS-F) to screen out the average score of each question is greater than 2.5,that is,the fat negative body self female college student, the experimental group, the average score of whom is below 2.5 belong to the control group. Then we use the female Photographic Chart Rating Scale(PFRS),303 female college students chose the photo which can best represent their own body(weight self-perception);chose the most attractive image in others' eyes(weight subjective social standard);assume that the characters in the image have the same height as them, and estimate the weight of the person in the photo(perception of other females' weight). What we want to know was whether the experimental group and the control group had significant differences in various weight perception indicators.Study1 drawn the following conclusions: The ideal weight of female college students is seriously thin.It is generally believed that women with severely thin body are more likely to be attractive in others' eyes.Fat negative physical self female college students' weight dissatisfaction is more serious, and the setting of ideal weight will affect female college students' subjective dissatisfaction.Female college students have a tendency to overestimate the body height of BMI<27,and have a low estimate of BMI>27.The fat negative physical self female college students estimated those who are fatter and close to themselves more accurately.Study 2 was a short intervention task for body dissatisfaction on female college students whose BMI was normal.Participants were selected from Study 1,as well as female college students who were additionally recruited on campus. The 160 participants of study 2 had normal BMI(18.5<BMI<23),and the experiment was 2(group: intervention group VS control group)*2(time: pre-test VS post-test)experimental design.Use Body Image Self Scale(BISS)to measure body satisfaction before and after intervention/control.Before and after the test, the experimental group completed the intervention task of recalling and describing an experience in which their body get positive comments from others. The control group described their favorite movie or a show(TV series,opera,concert,etc.).Study 2 found that the main effect of Group was significant, which meant post-test of two group was significantly different. The main effect of Time was significant, which meant overall sample had an increase in state body satisfaction from baseline to post-intervention.The interaction between the two groups was significant.Study 3 was a short intervention task for body dissatisfaction on female college students whose BMI was over 23.159 participants of the study had the overweight BMI(BMI>23),and the experiment was 3(group: intervention 1 VS intervention 2 VS control)*2(time: pre-test VS post-test)experimental design. The intervention task of experiment group in study3 was similar to which in study 2,but considering fat female may have few experience in which they get positive comment of their body, the experimental group of Study 3 can recall positive experiences that are not related to the body. The control task of control group was the same as study 2.Study 3 found that the main effect of Group was significant, which meant post-intervention of three groups was significantly different. The following conclusions were drawn from the above three studies:(1)The ideal weight of female college students is seriously thin.Fat negative physical self female college students' weight dissatisfaction is more serious. The fat negative physical self female college students estimated those who are fatter and close to themselves more accurately.(2)For female college students with normal weight(18.5 < BMI < 23),the intervention task of recalling the experience of positive comments on the body can effectively improve physical satisfaction.(3)For female college students with heavy weight(BMI>23),the intervention task of recalling the experience of positive comments on the body will not improve the body satisfaction, and intervention task of recalling the experience of positive comments can effectively improve physical satisfaction. The significance of this study is to examine the current state of weight perception of female college students. At the same time, for female college students with normal weight but dissatisfaction of body,if they are often given positive comments,or often exposed to similar positive situations, maybe their body satisfaction can be effectively improved. This also provides a direction for future mental health and counseling.
