A Study Of Chinese Translation Of English Film Titles From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

In recent years,under the background of China's reform and opening up and globalization,English movies,as an important medium of intercultural communication,are playing an increasingly important role.The film title,as the label of the film,plays an important role in attracting the audience's attention and stimulating the desire for viewing.Therefore,how to translate the English film titles into Chinese properly and effectively is a very important issue for many translators and scholars.It is also an important part of translation field.However,in the study of the translation of English film titles,the majority of scholars do so from a micro point of view,such as the perspective of Skopos theory,Functionalism to study translation strategies and methods.Few people are from the macro point of view,and systematically put forward principles and methods to guide the translation of film titles.Moreover,due to lack of systematic and feasible methods to guide the translation process,many problems have been caused,such as mistranslation and loose regulation.Especially,for the same English title,Mainland China,Hong kong and Taiwan often provide many differen versions.Based on this,this paper,guided by “three-dimensional principle”,attempts to study English film title translation,especially different versions of film title translation in Mainland China,Hong Kong and Taiwan from the perspective of Eco-translatology.Originating from the theory of “translation adaptation and selection”,the concept of eco-translatology was first put forward by Chinese scholar Hu Gengshen.In the past 20 years of continuous improvement,Eco-translatology has become a mature translation theory.The novelty and uniqueness of the theory is that it starts from a macro perspective.It puts forward the guiding systematic principles and feasible methods which provide a new perspective for translation studies.Ecology,as a new science form,has been widely concerned by scholars.Professor Hu Gengshen,combines ecology and translatology and then puts forward the theory of “Eco-translatology” and clarifies the ecological perspective of eco-translatology.Based on the basic principles of Biological Evolution: “natural selection” and “survival of the fittest”,Eco-translatology gives a new definition of the essence of translation: translation is the translators' selective activity of their adaption to the Eco-environment.From the definition,the “translator” is the center of translation,and the process of translation is the process of the translator's adaptation and the translator's choice.In addition,Eco-translatology focuses on the integrity of the translational ecosystem,and offers new descriptions and explanations to the translation principles and methods.Translation should conform to the principle of “selective adaptation and adaptive selection” and is the transformation from three dimensions,namely linguistic,cultural and communicative dimensions.
