Eco-translatology is a newly rising cross-disciplinary translation theory by Prof.Hu Gengshen a dozen years ago. This theory holds that translation is actually a process in which the translator tries to adapt multi-dimensionally to the translational eco-environment and makes an adaptive selection of the target text.Although this translation theory is still under development,it possesses a certain explanatory power for many translation activities. In this thesis, the author intends to conduct an eco-translatological approach to Qu Chang's translation of A Song of Ice and Fire while exploring how the translator adapts to the translational eco-environment and making corresponding adaptive selections in terms of linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions.Meanwhile, some translation inappropriateness is pointed out.By doing so,the author aims to explore the influence of translational eco-environment on translation activities and test the applicability of eco-translatology in translation practice. The author's research shows that translational eco-environment plays an important role in translation and translator should pay more attention to adaptive selection in linguistic, cultural and communicative dimension.Besides, the high degree of adaptation and selection in keeping the balance of textual ecology and translator quality are the reasons behind the better survival of translation.
