News plays an increasingly important role in modern days. Among all types of news, political news is always given priority because the interests and daily life of the public are closely connected with political events. At present, English is still the dominant language in the world media and political news occupies majority part in English media. To some Chinese audiences, it is not easy to learn news information directly from English media. Therefore, it is necessary to study Chinese translation of English political news to make Chinese people better informed.Eco-translatology proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen of Tsinghua University provides a new perspective of translation studies. It is an ecological approach to translation studies or a kind of translation studies from an ecological perspective. This translation theory introduces Darwin’s evolution theory into translation studies, giving brand new viewpoints about essence, process, principle, methods, evolution criteria of translation as well as the translator’s centeredness. At present, focus has been made on political news translation, but rarely researchers use Eco-translatology to systematically study this particular type of news translation. So the thesis tries to make a tentative study on Chinese translation of English political news within the theoretical framework of Eco-tranlatology.The thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One is the introductory part, in which the author presents the background, significance, methods and layout of the research. Chapter Two first states previous study about news translation and political news translation and then focuses on the development of Eco-translatology. Chapter Three gives the complete theoretical framework of Eco-translatology. Chapter Four is the main part in this thesis, which attempts to analyze the special translational eco-environment in Chinese translation of English political news and the news translator’s role in process of translation. The chapter also tries to explore the translation methods in translating political news by the translator’s adaptive selection and transformation from linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions. Chapter Five concludes the whole thesis, and states the limitations of the thesis as well as some suggestions about doing the research in the future.
