Along with the popularity of mobile devices,people started to be aware of the new way in which they can learn.A diversified method of learningmobile learning,which can provide ubiquitous,and flexible learning to learner-will take an important role in learning instead of traditional classroom learning.Nowadays,the prevalence of smart-phone,multimedia player and laptop paves a broader way to learning.At present,there have been some researches on mobile assisted language learning,mainly focusing on the development of distance education and learning software platform,especially the educational technology,and then there are also more researches on the learning materials.As a matter of fact,researches on making the investigation on the basic mobile assisted language learning situation of college students are few.This paper is an investigation on the use of mobile devices in college non-English majors’ English learning with the participants from Inner Mongolia Normal University,consisting of 381 participants from history,Chinese,law,math,physics and computers departments.And questionnaires and interviews are used to conduct in-depth research to survey the basic situation and the influential factors on their mobile assisted English learning and to answer the following three research questions: 1.What’s the current situation of using mobile devices to learn English for non-English major college students? 2.What are the differences between students of liberal art and science in mobile assisted language learning? 3.What are the factorsinfluencing their mobile assisted language learning in English learning? At last,the single choice questions were analyzed by SPSS17.0,while the three multiple choice questions were analyzed by Excel.The results showed that: 1.The students who are using mobile devices to learn English had taken a large proportion of total number of college students.As far as learners’ preference’s considered,the participants prefer to learn basic knowledge and practice basic skill by using mobile devices to learn English.And majority of participants’ attitudes towards mobile assisted language learning are supportive.2.When it comes to the investigation of students of liberal art and science,their preferences of content,time and mode are the nearly the same.There are some slight differences in preference of learning mode.The participants from science show more diversity in learning various knowledge by using different kinds of apps,while the participants of liberal art show that they prefer to learn English knowledge which was related to their own major in certain way.2.With respect to influential factors,there are three key ones: learners’ preference,attitudes,strategy and the function of teachers.
