A Study On Hospital Signage And Way Finding Systems

Since hospital is an open space that serves the general public and has a large flow of people,a normative and humanized hospital signage and way finding system is required to increase efficiency,soothe tensions,ease depression and head the way for patients rapidly and accurately in the course of diagnosis.Currently,hospital signage and way finding systems in China need to be further improved in many respects.It is necessary to introduce new design concepts for improvement.Therefore,studies on hospital signage and way finding systems are of great practical significance.This paper takes way finding functions and humanized design of hospital signage and way finding systems as the main line.Firstly,it is based on the interdependence between graphic symbols and environments to demonstrate and analyze the origin,development and concepts of signage and way finding systems.Secondly,the paper proceeds from semiotics to introduce the semiotic significance of signage and way finding design,analyze way finding functions and humanized design of the systems,deepen the understanding of signage and way finding design,explore the importance of humanized design and investigate the design principles dominated by aesthetic functions.Finally,the paper selects the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University for field investigation,demonstrates design ideas with concrete examples and proposes some suggestions,thereby providing references for hospital signage and way finding design and exploring wider development space of signage and way finding design.This paper employs case study,field investigation and questionnaire survey for analysis.It comparatively explores excellent cases of hospital signage and way finding systems overseas,collects lots of pictures and applies design methods and research theories obtained to hospital signage and way finding systems in China,thereby making some contribution to hospital construction in China.
