Research On The Animal Metaphors Of Chinese Plant-naming

Plant nomenclature research is an important component part of research on object in traditional linguistics.When people name plants,they select familiar animal images as prototype image and extract their similar or related property to name plants.This paper uses statistical methods to classify and inspect animal metaphorical words of a certain number of Chinese botanical names and obtains more accurate quantitative results.Analyze the animal metaphorical phenomena used in Chinese plant-naming and the important relationship between animal metaphorical phenomena used in Chinese plantnaming and people's cognition as well as ethnic culture to reveal its naming justifications and excavate the culture implication behind the culture.This paper consists of five parts:The prolegomenon systematically combs the research status of metaphor,animal metaphor,plant nomenclature and animal metaphors in plant nomenclature.Then define the research object,scope,research methods and research significance.The first chapter first defines the concept of animal metaphor used in Chinese plant-naming and explains its theoretical mechanism;then,give examples to analyze the characteristics of animal metaphor in Chinese plant nomenclature.The second chapter states the naming motivation analysis of animal metaphor in Chinese plant nomenclature and studies its naming orientation rules form the view of plants' morphology,property and function.The third chapter does the systematic quantitative and qualitative analysis of collected corpus.Then use chart and data to intuitively show phenomena of animal metaphors used in Chinese plant nomenclature and analyze the influence of regional culture on animal metaphor used in Chinese plant nomenclature.The last part summarizes the main points and content and points out the reference of studying animal metaphor used in Chinese plant nomenclature to culture communication and culture teaching and the shortcomings of this paper.
