A Study On The Influence Of Trait Anxiety On Cognitive Control

Anxious is one of many human emotions,and trait anxiety is a lasting and stable personality trait that encounters frequent,high-intensity anxiety and worry in the face of various stress scene.Trait anxiety is an episode of anxiety and depression.In the past,the focus was on the lack of control of trait anxiety and the suppression control as a integrity.Braver and Burgess(2007)proposed dual mechanisms of control to classify the suppression control into active control and reactive control.The dual cognitive control theory provides a new understanding for understanding the cognitive control characteristics of individual trait anxiety.However,the present research has less evidence,so this study studies the effect of trait anxiety on cognitive control from the perspective of dual control.Attention control theory of trait anxiety suggests that the lack of trait anxiety suppression is mainly reflected in the processing efficiency.Individuals with high trait anxiety may use more top-down resources to compensate for their reduced processing efficiency,and thus show that attention control The same level of operation as low anxiety individuals(Eysenck et al.,2007).If we give a high working memory load on a cognitive control task,the high working memory load consumes a limited working memory resource,and the compensatory strategy that the individual trait may use may have been destroyed,and the negative effects of trait anxiety on cognitive control will be manifested.This study will explore the effect of trait anxiety on cognitive control under different working memory loads.Experiment 1 used the Continuous Performance Test(AX-CPT)task to explore the impact of trait anxiety on cue retention(proactive control)and flexible response(reactive control).The study found that in the BX sequence,the high trait anxiety response was longer than that of the low trait anxiety,indicating that trait anxiety weakened the progression control and supported the claim from the discriminant index d ' In the AY sequence response and the accuracy rate,the high anxiety individual may be the same as the low anxiety individual,without showing the difference,the discriminant index,the high and low trait anxiety on the detection of information There is no difference in sensitivity.Indicating that the high anxiety individual in the reaction control on the better preservation,and low trait anxiety.The experiment also found that the working memory load,trait anxiety,trial type three factors of interaction effect is not significant,indicating that the working memory load does not destroy the high trait anxiety using the compensation strategy,and low working memory load compared to high working memory load Control did not show weakness.The Experiment 2 operated the Item-Specific Proportion Congruent of Stroop task,using event-related potential technology to study the relationship between trait anxiety and reactive control under different working memory loads.The effect of Stroop in Mostly Congruent items was significantly higher than that in Mostly Inongruent items.In the response,the Item-Specific Proportion Congruent effect was significantly higher in slow potential components which is higher than that of low trait anxiety.It indicates that the high trait anxiety control is impaired.The interaction between working memory load,trait anxiety,item type and trail type is not significant,which indicates that the high working memory load does not affect the high trait anxiety 's reactive control control.The two experiments in this study revolve around the relationship between trait anxiety and cognitive control.In the experiment,we found that the characteristics of cognitive impairment of the trait anxiety were not only reflected in the proactive control,but also reflected in the reactive control,but also found that the working memory load did not weaken the cognitive control of trait anxiety,This finding in the study deepens our understanding of the cognitive characteristics of trait anxiety.
