Co-presented by LeTV and Visible Influence Pictures in January 2016,Heirs is broadcast at the same time on CCTV and LeTV,which has achieved a high audience rating thanks to its artistic pictures,narration with civilian point of view,and profound theme of cultural tradition.Based on the theories of narratology,aesthetics and communication,this paper is designed to make a full analysis of Heirs from three aspects,namely,narrative techniques,aesthetic properties,and media channels.Chapter I makes a point of poetic narration in Heirs through the discussion on narrative techniques.Main narrators take a civilian point of view to tell the provoking stories of tradition,who are common people in the real life and preserve,inherit and prompt the traditional culture and skills.Apart from its narrators,a linear comprised by the appealing plots and rhythm-like narration and a prose style with sole theme and spirit has made the documentary to be a role model of the perfect combination of text narration and media art.In Chapter II,theories concerning semiotic aesthetics and receptional aesthetics are widely applied.Both the pictures and the sound effects are first under study in aspect of light,lens,music and commentary so as to offer typical artistic properties.Meanwhile,cultural properties are revealed by presenting people’s inheritance and development of traditional skills and cultural spirits,which reveals the significance of culture value in the documentary.The artistic methods and cultural values both lend high aesthetic values to a successful documentary.Heirs conveys the precious value of inheritance in the presentation of how to creatively pass down valuable cultures how to construct the beauty of life and how to pursue the spirit destination by wise Chinese.That’s why the documentary gain praise.Chapter III concentrates on study of media channels based on the mass-communication theories.In recent years,the development of network techniques has made it possible for documentaries to be broadcast in more media platforms and in a variety of ways.While personal computers and mobile clients have been developed,traditional televisions are still functioning well and playing an important part.The documentary is first promoted on the internet,then broadcast on TV and internet at the same time,and finally widely-spread with mobile clients,thusforming a chain-like full-media broadcast.It takes a comprehensive look from narrative techniques,aesthetic properties and media channels,makes a full assessment of traditional media and new media,and has a prospective for the future development of new-media made documentaries in conclusion.
