Philosophical Study On Views Of Mental Substance

"The soul is nothing but the body,and the body is merely the soul".The position of thoughts and feelings in nature because the main objective of study in science and philosophy,the expound of relationship between science and philosophy formed the "mind-body" issue has been confused by people in thousands of years,which is in other words to say "the relationship between psychological phenomena and physical phenomena.Until now,this issue has not been formed a general consensus.Every answer to which will become an unacceptable result.This is the question whether the soul is entity.Aristotle proposed the scope of entity and entity’s two attributes;Descartes thought that the mind and body are entity and they are coexistence;Loke and Hume believed that the entity exit but unknown;Berkeley advocated the mind is the only entity;Spinoza insists the entity monism,he thought that the only entity in the world is the God;Cognitive science and behaviourists believed that the mind is an entity;scientific realists believed that the mind is an organ with special functions.computational theory of mind pointed out the mind is merely product of brain’s biochemical activity,the details of which was far beyond the scope of philosophy.However,the mind exists or not like the material,which is still the subject of doubt and disputation for philosophers.This paper intends to illustrate the positive significance of the old entity doctrine to Contemporary mind Philosophy by combing the representative system from ancient to contemporary spiritual entity doctrine.The disadvantages and drawbacks of old entity doctrine to raise awareness of the disadvantages of ontological thinking mode,so as to better promote the development of contemporary mind philosophy.
