Hostility refers to hold negative evaluation and expectation about others,accompanied by emotions such as fear,disgust and anger,and tend to deal relationship with fighting and aggressive.Hostility among college students can increase their problems on psychology and behavior,and lead to poor academic achievement,impaired social function,substance abuse,suicide,aggression and so on.Previous studies have suggest that hostility is significantly and negatively correlated with forgiveness,and forgiveness can reduce the negative affection that may increase hostility,then play a helpful role to reduce hostility.Forgiveness can be classified as Situational Forgiveness and Dispositional Forgiveness.The present study is designed to investigate the impact that forgiveness has on hostility,and to demonstrate the effect of forgiveness intervention to reduce hostility.In study 1,The Forgiveness Likelihood Scale,Forgiveness Scale,and Chinese Hostility Inventory:Short Form were administrated to a sample of 228 college students to investigate the relationship between dispositional forgiveness and hostility,Situational forgiveness and hostility,respectively.Results showed:Men's Hostility expression is significantly higher than women's,but there is no gender difference in other three dimensions of hostility;Dispositional forgiveness is significantly and negatively correlated with hostility,hostile expression,hostile cognition,but it isn't significantly and correlated with hostile affection and hostility suppression;Situational forgiveness is significantly and negatively correlated with hostility and its dimensions.The Self-concern disappeared is significantly and negatively correlated with hostility and its dimensions;The negative response disappeared is significantly and negatively correlated with hostility,hostility cognition,hostility affection and hostility suppression,but it is not significantly correlated with hostility expression;The positive appeared is significantly and negatively correlated with hostility,hostile cognition,but it is not significantly correlated with hostile affection,hostile expression and hostility suppression.In study 2,we recruited 18 subjects from whose hostile was positive,other factor and UPI scores were normal,then divided them into experiment group and compared group randomly,and each group was conducted 10 times,20 hours forgiveness group intervention and narrative group intervention,and we investigated the subjects with the Forgiveness Likelihood Scale,Forgiveness Scale,and Chinese Hostility Inventory:Short Form before and after intervention,to exam the effectiveness of the two group interventions on hostility among college students.Results showed:The post-test D-value and the following post-test D-value of the forgiveness intervention group is significantly different from the narrative intervention group:the D-value of the forgiveness intervention group is higher than narrative intervention group.Conclusions:Compared to trait forgiveness,Situational forgiveness is an important predictor variable of hostility,especially the Self-concern disappeared dimension;The forgiveness intervention can significantly enhance the level of forgiveness,and forgiveness intervention is more effective to reduce the level of hostility than narrative intervention.
