Since the 20th century, the extremely weather occurred frequently, people began to reflect on the ecological theory and reality.Jonathan Hughes is an environmental ethics experts in England. He responded the environmental theorist's criticism about Marxism theory, at the same time he indicated that proper interpretation of historical materialism can provide an suitable means for ecological problem, finally he think communism must based on the ecological development of the productive force in the book of <Ecological and Historical Materialism>.His research developed the marxist further,had important theoretical value and practical significance.This article analyzed Hughes'basic concept firstly.lt includes five point,the essence of the ecological problems is humanized nature restrictions on people, naturally limits have relativity, two-way interactive relationship between man and nature, ecological benign development of productivity is the foundation of social change, self-fulfilling need to conform to the ecological threshold.In the third part, I introduced Hughes'ecological and historical materialism thought have important contributions. Hughes defended the ecological view of Marxist,Hughes expanded the Marxist view of natural limits,Hughes explained Marxist ecological values, Hughes revealed the ecological dimension of productivity development,Hughes illustrated the ecological implication of historical materialism.Next,I introduced the basic defects about Hughes'opinion.It mainly included these parts:lacking of criticism of the capitalist system, ignoring the construction of the ecological system, haven't realizing the importance of class struggle.Finally,I mainly introduced the enlightenment to China. It included adhering the socialist system, adjusting the relationship between human and nature, promoting the ecological transformation of science and technology, speeding up the transformation of production mode and setting up the correct ecological values in five aspects.The sixth part is epilogue.
