Mo Yan is classified as "Root-Seeking literature" writer, whose novels are full of local flavor and have a large number of folk culture information. In recent years, how to properly translate the words and paragraphs of the folk culture is the main task of the translation scholars so that the target readers can understand and accept the connotations of Chinese traditional folk culture.American Sinologist Howard Goldblatt is known as the "chief translator of Chinese modern and contemporary literature". His translation of folk culture information in Big Breasts and Wide Hips is quite ingenious. Through careful study of the original work and compared with the translation, and based on the analysis of both internal and external factors which restrict and influence translator's subjectivity, this thesis analyzes Howard Goldblatt's translation strategies of folk culture based on the theory of Translator's Subjectivity. The thesis analyzes the translator's translation strategies from three aspects:oral folklore, customs and folk customs. Finally, we can draw a conclusion that the translator's subjectivity plays an important role in translation activities, it can enable the translators to adopt the translation strategy of domestication and foreignization flexibly to transfer the original cultural connotations more effectively on the basis of being faithful to the original text.Howard Goldblatt adopts a variety of strategies to convey the folk culture in this novel, such as:annotation, literal translation, translation, reducing, trying to help the target readers to grasp the original text. These flexible translation strategies are worth our learning.
