Thought And Influence Of Three Collections Of Buddhist Monks Filial Piety Concepts

Research of Filial Piety Thought & Practice by Eminent Monks in "Gao Seng Zhuan", "Xu Gao Seng Zhuan", "Song Gao Seng Zhuan".Three Biographies of Eminent Monks are:"Gao Seng Zhuan" by Liang. ShihHuiJiao, "Xu Gao Seng Zhuan" by Tang.ShihDaoXuan and "Song Gao Seng Zhuan" by Song.ShihZan Ning, from the Han Dynasty to North Song Dynasty period of time, covered by all 10 different subjects, had created tremendous & very important effects in regards of development of Buddhism in China.At the early stage of Buddhist sutras in India, the thought of filial piety had been mentioned & discussed, thereafter with the spreading of Buddhism into China, as the righteousness of teachings of Buddha continued, the traditional Chinese Confucianism ethics of filial piety had been combined with Buddhism & formed a unique Chinese Buddhism filial piety which caused extreme profound influence to the China society subsequently. Therefore, the research of Chinese Buddhism filial piety is worth some & meaningful in terms of knowing about the development of Buddhism in China as well as the filial piety thought in the modem society context.This article consists of 4 portions:Firstly, to sort out & re-organise the induction of historical data regarding the practise & propagation of filial piety by the eminent monks in the Biographies of Eminent Monks from the aforesaid three dynasties. Through in depth research of the eminent monks, discovered the essence & spirit of filial piety ethic system. Besides, to elaborate the contents & further investigation of the common connotation of filial piety by referring to Buddhist literature canon. Secondly, to seek for the main cause of the practise of filial piety by eminent monks, and research of influence of history stratification. The third part is a former monk who practice it as filial piety, on Modern Buddhism. The fourth part is how to play modern monks should promote social Filial piety.Therefore in the context of Chinese Buddhism filial piety philosophy, the tradition and practise of filial piety by former eminent monks become obvious, and excavated Chinese Buddhism filial piety thoughts about the initial essential sense of purposes. However, current Buddhist monks should perform religious function to promote filial piety in the modern society.
