On Translation Of Children's Literature From The Perspective Of The Reception Aesthetics

On account of the particularity of children readers,children's literature translation plays a significant and special role not only in the translation system but also in the broad field of children's literature.However,studies on children's literature translation between the theory and the practice are experiencing imbalance these years,which is well worth studying and exploring.In order to discover more applicable translation strategies of children's literature,this thesis attempts to apply two important concepts of the Reception Aesthetics,"horizon of expectations" and "fusion of horizons",to the practice of children's literature translation so as to prove the practicability and effectiveness of the Reception Aesthetics on the study of children's literature translation.Based on the Reception Aesthetics,this thesis tries to prove the practical value of the Reception Aesthetics in children's literature translation by discussing the translation strategies of children's literature in lexicology,syntax,rhetoric,and culture from the perspective of the Reception Aesthetics.This thesis can be divided into five chapters:Chapter One sketches the definition,classification,and characteristics of children's literature,and describes the current translation situation in west and China.Chapter Two presents the main viewpoints of the Reception Aesthetics.Chapter Three mainly discusses children's literature translation from the perspective of the Reception Aesthetics,and points out that translators ought to recreate the work from children's viewpoints.Chapter Four attempts to discuss the translation strategies of children's literature from the aspects of lexicology,syntax,rhetoric,and culture by studying Chao Yuenren's translation work of Alice Adventure in Wonderland to prove the practical value of the Reception Aesthetics in children's literature translation.In the end,Chapter Five points out the limitation of this thesis,and offers some advice on future studies of the topic.In sum,this thesis is written in the hope that more attention can be drawn to children's literature translation in both theory and practice.
