| This study was to investigate the self-efficacy and family support of hospitalized schizophrenic patients and their caregivers.The self-report scales were used as tools for collecting verbal information,and projective drawing techniques were used as tools for collecting non-verbal information.Researcher used the Kinetic-Family-Drawing to understand individual’s family relationship,and the Draw-A-Person-In-the-Rain to understand the individual’s internal psychological characteristics.Fifty pairs of schizophrenic patients and their caregivers were involved in this study,in which each patient completed two drawings,the General Self-Efficacy Scale,the Perceived Social Support from Family and the Perceived Social Support Scale,and the caregiver completed two drawings,the General Self-Efficacy Scale,Offered Social Support to Family and Offered Social Support Scale-Family.According to the features of the collected drawings,a scoring criteria that is suitable for this study has been developed.Among these criteria,25 of them focus on the features of Draw-A-Person-In-the-Rain,20 of them focus on the Kinetic-Family-Drawing.Data analysis showed that:(a)there is no significant differences between the perceived family support of schizophrenia patients and provided family support of their caregivers;(b)the self-efficacy and perceived(provided)family support of both patients and caregivers have a significant positive correlation;(c)there was no significant difference between male and female patients at the level of comprehend family support,and there was no significant difference between male caregivers and female caregivers at the level of provided family support;(d)part of the features of Kinetic-Family-Drawing significantly correlated to self-efficacy and family support,such as the lack of self,the lack of family members and the emotions of the figures;(e)part of the features of Draw-A-Person-In-the-Rain significantly correlated to self-efficacy and family support,such as the relative size of the protection and the human being,clothes and the environmental depiction.After selecting three pairs of patients and caregivers and analyzing their drawings,the researchers found that the drawings of patients and their caregivers showed different characteristics in the drawings,such as the drawings did not show the same family structure and family character,it means that the understanding and emotion of the family were different.Some of the patients and caregivers used temporary protection in Draw-A-Person-In-the-Rain,indicating that they coping capacity are not good enough.Finally,this study discussed the results based on the contents of the drawings and the characteristics of such groups.As the information found in the drawings is different from the information of the questionnaire,recommended that in the psychological counseling or therapy,it is important to pay attention to non-verbal information,especially when verbal information and non-verbal information is contradictory. |
