This essay aims to find out how calligraphy is written in the epitaph of lower class maids in the Tang palace through more than 40 collections in Qiantangzhizhai Museum.It analyses in detail and classifies the different styles and characteristics of gravestone epitaph according to each period of Tang Dynasty.The natural and unique beauty is revealed by the comparison with the main stream epitaph in formation,carving skills and calligraphy style.In the meanwhile,the essay makes an intensive study on the link between the liberal style of gravestone epitaph and the romantic style of calligraphy in order to make contributions to contemporary calligraphy study and creation.Apart from this,the essay does further research into the relevant problems conveyed in the epitaph,such as the status and fate of maids so as to show us a comprehensive understanding of maids in Tang Dynasty.
