A Corpus-based Narratological Study Of The Female Images In Mo Yan's Novelettes

Mo Yan is one of the writers who cannot be ignored in the history of contemporary Chinese literature.Meanwhile,in nearly 20 years of novel creation,Mo Yan is famous for its unique imagination impact on Chinese contemporary literary world.Each stage of Mo Yan's novel creation has received intense attention,but most current researches focus on a comparison between female images in his novels and female images in other authors' novels,or analyze the reasons of the creation of different female images in his novels.More proper narratological respective is needed in analyses of the female imagination in Mo Yan's overall novel creation.This thesis systematically and comprehensively summarizes the previous researches of narratology,Mo Yan,Mo Yan's works,and the female images in his works at home and abroad.On the basis of a corpus,the author uses Genette's narrative focalization theory to analyze the female images and narrative effect of Mo Yan's novelettes in the field of narratology.Through the narrative analysis and corpus analysis,the author finds that the female images in Mo Yan's novelettes are mainly divided into four types: images of female elders,images of wives,images of female companions and images of unacquainted women.In his novels,Mo Yan mainly uses the narrative strategies of multidimensional focalizations(including zero focalization,internal focalization and external focalization).First of all,Mo Yan uses zero focalization to shape and visualize female images,which lays a foundation for readers to form vivid characters,so that the readers can quickly have a rough understanding of the woman.In addition,Mo Yan uses the perspective of internal focalization to combine different characters' perspectives in order to highlight the dramatic effect,increase readers' interest and strengthen the authenticity of the story;meanwhile,this kind of perspective enhances the representation of the characters and themes,and promotes the development of the plot.Finally,the use of the external focalization leaves suspense to readers,arouses the readers' sense of participation and re-creativity.Meanwhile,Mo Yan adopts different narrative strategies to shape different types of female images.In the reconstruction of narrative understanding and narrative text,this thesis affirms the artistic value of Mo Yan's novels,combined with the analysis of female images in order to enhance the aesthetic experience in reading Mo Yan's novelettes.
