Introduction And Evaluation Of The Perceived Stress Questionnaire

ObjectiveTo develop the Chinese version of the Perceived Stress Questionnaire(PSQ),we introduced the English version of the PSQ in strict accordance with the WHO standard introduction process and Brislin's back-translation model,by reviewing the theory and method of psychological stress measurement systematically and summarizing mainstream tools in the field of global pressure measurement.Our research team applied the Chinese version of the PSQ(CPSQ)to test stressful subjects in order to evaluate its psychometric characteristics comprehensively and laid a foundation for future utilizations the CPSQ.MethodsPSQ was selected as the research tool.Based on the model of measurement equivalence,the PSQ was translated into the CPSQ followed by WHO standard and the Brislin's back-translation model.The applicability of the CPSQ in Chinese context was assessed among different samples.Three samples were collected from Wuhan,Shiyan and Ningbo city;and their sampling methods were accidental sampling,stratified sampling,and stratified sampling,respectively.Multivariate analyses(factor analysis,structural equation model)were used to examine and evaluate the CPSQ psychometric characteristics.ResultsThe total number of all the samples from three study sites was 2798.The CPSQ retained all 30 items from the PSQ.For validity analyses,exploratory factor analyses showed there were five factors in the CPSQ,and they altogether explained 52.136%of the total variance.The criterion validity of CPSQ were 0.826,0.672 using the CPSS-10 and the Chinese version of SF-8 as the criterion,respectively;S-CVI/Ave was 0.913,I-CVI ranged from 0.60 to 1.00.For reliability analyses,the test-retest reliability of the sample 1 was 0.902 in a 2-day interval and the sample 3 was about 0.787 in one week interval.The internal consistency of the whole scale was 0.943(sample 2),0.922(sample 3);the semi-confidence Spearman-Brown coefficient were 0.923(sample 2),0.909(sample 3).Composite reliability of the CPSQ was 0.934;the average variance extracted was 0.742.The average scores of PSQ Index of samples 1,2,and 3 were 0.402 ± 0.137,0.466±0.168,and 0.399 ± 0.138,respectively,and the PSQ Index was evaluated as large,extra-large and large.CPSQ Index of student groups is large.CPSQ Index of medical workers is extra-large.ConclusionCPSQ is equivalent with the PSQ;the CPSQ has good psychometric indicators;The CPSQ can be used to differentiate different subgroups.The CPSQ is a validated Chinese version of the PSQ.
