An Analysis Of Slang Interpreting:a Practice Interpreting Report On The Xiao Song Pedia Of "Forrest Gump"

In recent years, Internet, as the main channel for Chinese people to gain information and recreation, is gradually replacing other media like television and broadcast. Therefore, network drama, network variety and network talk show are suddenly rising as new forces. This paper has followed the trend closely and chosen the most representative network talk show called Xiao Song Pedia. This paper is an interpreting practice which is based on the material of Forrest Gump of Xiao Song Pedia. It sets the performance of simultaneous interpreting as an example to reflect on the whole process by listing, recording and analyzing the problems during the process of Chinese and English interpreting under the guidance of skopos theory.Given the novelty of Xiao Song Pedia and the flexibility of its language, the interpreter needs to take the comprehensive and specific factors into consideration during the process of the interpreting. There are a great number of difficult preparations which need to be done and the author has consulted lots of related resources. Based on the interpreting experience, the interpreter would elaborate and summarize those concrete issues such as the skills of translating slang in those TV programs, providing reference for the interpreting and compiling of those similar subjects.This thesis consists of three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion. Its main contents are as follows:The first part is the introduction, including the current research condition, the problem required to be solved and the realistic significance and application of Xiao Song Pedia.The second part is the main body, which is made up of three chapters:Chapter One mainly introduces the task description. In this chapter, it first introduces the background of Xiao Song Pedia and the selection of episode of Forrest Gump. What's more, it introduces the targets of interpretation and the skills required in simultaneous interpreting.Chapter Two concentrates on the process description. It analyzes the important role played by pre-preparation in the interpreting process and the influence of other factors, like notes, listening, mental quality, etc. Then the author analyzes the interpreting process and quality control.Chapter Three focuses on the case analysis. Due to various slang in this talk show, Chapter Three sets Xiao Song Pedia as an example to analyze the feature of slang, and different interpreting skills of slang under the guidance of skopos theory.The last part is the conclusion, which summarizes the thesis and reflects on the practice process. Through the analysis and summaries, the author collected much valuable experience and lesson which may provide reference for the future interpreting work.
