Since there is an increase of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, in which interpreters play a more and more important role, it is the responsibility for every interpreter to introduce Chinese culture to the outside world. There are many types of translation. Interpreting is a verbal translation of the speaker’s speech from the speaker’s language to the language of the target audience. As an effective method, interpreting helps people from different countries promote exchanges and remove obstacles in their communication. The 80’s talk show is the first program in China featuring in European and American style. The host of the program is Wang Zijian and the content of this show closely follows the trend of domestic hot issues, analyzing and commenting the hot news on the Internet. This program reflects the hottest things in China and is the best way to know about China for most foreign media and netizens. Therefore, the author chose one episode of The 80’s talk show as the interpreting material. This report introduces and summarizes the author’s interpreting practice of The 80’s talk show--unexpectedness by simultaneous interpreting principle. This report tries to summarize the interpreting strategies that the author used in the practice, the syntactic linearity in particular. The author also sums up the problems that occurred in the practice and puts forward some reflections and suggestions for future interpreting practices. This report consists of three parts:introduction, main body and conclusion. Its main contents are as follows:The first part is introduction, including relevant background of the talk show and the significance of the interpreting practice. The second part is the main body, which is made up of three chapters:Chapter one gives an introduction of the interpreting task-and preparation of the practice. This part has four sections, including the background of the practice material, the vocabulary in this episode, the strategies chosen for this interpreting and the preparation of the interpreter.Chapter two lists some cases for analysis according to the simultaneous interpreting principles, in which each principle is introduced and analyzed and the author explained how to use those principles in practical interpreting. The main principles of simultaneous interpreting are syntactic linearity, reformation and so on. This chapter also analyzes some cases under the guidance of those principles. This chapter lists some successful examples in this practice which are consistent with the simultaneous interpreting principles. The last chapter is a reflection of the experience and suggestions for the future interpreting. These reflections contain four parts which are the most important points in the author’s mind:preparation before interpreting work, the strain capacity during interpreting, extracting the main information of the source text and being faithful to the source language. The last part is the conclusion. It makes a summary and points out the weakness and limitation of this interpreting practice.
