English romantic poetry had a far-reaching influence in Europe and America in the 18 th and 19 th century.Wordsworth is the founder of the English romantic poetry,his poetic creation is featured by both the general characteristics of the English romantic poetry and its unique characteristics.Wordsworth's poems and poetic views have exerted extraordinary impact in the literary circle.In the past 200 years before Wordsworth put forward his poetic views,the neo-classicism had always dominated the ideology of the literature creators.In the later stage of the neo-classicism,rhythm,the wording of poetry and rationality were overemphasized,which brought bondage to the literature creation,as the creators were completely unable to open up their vision.Therefore,the literary works became dull due to the lack of the imagination.The poems composed by William Wordsworth are excellent literary works with a lofty artistic ambience and profound imagination.According to Wordsworth's poetic views,imagination in poems is extremely important and poems are the outcome of rich imagination.Wordsworth claims that imagination owns both human nature(enthusiasm and sense)and divinity,so it is considered not only as the talent of the literature creators but also the power to make people have a keen insight into the world unity.Therefore,imagination plays a vital role in Wordsworth's poetics and bold imagination is seen everywhere in Wordsworth's literary works.Wordsworth's concept of imagination is a non-ignorable part which commands his poetics and is seen as the basic aesthetic creed of Wordsworth's poetry composition.Without Wordsworth's unique and incisive understanding about imagination,the creation of a lot of excellent romantic poems would be impossible.Compared with the neo-classicism,Wordsworth's poetics is a comprehensive and systematic poetic view with rich connotations which can guide poetry creation.Influenced by psychology association and Neoplatonism of the 18 th century,Wordsworth's poetics acknowledges the vital role of creators in the process of literature creation,the importance of imagination,artistic conception prospect andimages.Additionally,Wordsworth's poetics advocates the social function of literature taking affection as the core.Wordsworth has succeeded in inheriting the traditional cultural theories and he further put forward his unique poetic views that are helpful for modern literature creation and thus are very influential in the literary circle of Britain and America.Wordsworth's poetics plays an important role in transforming the European and American literature from the neo-classicism to modern literary theories.Wordsworth's poetics has a positive impact on Chinese literature,and it has contributed to the construction and development of Chinese modern romantic poetry.Meanwhile,many Chinese romantic poets are influenced by Wordsworth's poetics.Studying his concept of imagination is of great theoretical and practical values for the studies of the Chinese romantic poetry at the beginning of the 20 th century.Therefore,to learn Wordsworth's poetics is important for modern poetry and even literature creation.
