Western missionaries as an important medium of cultural exchange between east and west which began to introduce the Western Renaissance paintings and its techniques into China since the period Wanli of the Ming dynasty.It provided Chinese audience with an all-new aesthetic experience and became a considerable shaping force to some degree for the evolution of Chinese traditional painting.Focusing on the relationship among missionaries and the spreading of Western painting into China,this article is mainly aimed to discuss the missionaries activity background and which painting influenced by Western painting.Then compare and contrast the painting influenced by Western paintings and Chinese traditional painting.Through the research can be seen the important function of the missionaries in fusion of Chinese and Western painting.They were not only spread the Western painting in the process of cultural missionary endeavors,many missionaries like Lang Shining but also studied hard for the Chinese traditional culture and Chinese painting techniques,and devoted themselves to seeking the way of fusion of Chinese and Western painting,try to put the Western techniques into the local culture and arts.In addition,we also can be seen the literati painters,the court painters,fork artists took different attitudes and methods for reference.It shows that Chinese painters how to influenced by Western painting,and form a painting style.When Chinese ink painting met western oil painting,it had caused a question that how to combines both the advantages and get Chinese aesthetics standard which worth every painter to thinking when they faced with different aesthetic pursuit and feel.Finally,the paper thinking about the question that how to combination of two kinds of painting through three aspects of aesthetics of eastern and Western painting,the realism and impressionism,the plane and three-dimensional.The paper holds that the Western missionaries painter and the influenced Chinese painter during the Ming and qing dynasties,their practices for combination of two kinds of painting provides valuable experiences and references for absorb foreign cultures and arts.When Chinese painter absorb Western painting and its techniques,they should base on Chinese traditional philosophy and culture,integrate some of feasible western techniques and aesthetics into their painting.It will make Chinese painting keep its artistic characteristics.
