The Liao Dynasty is established by the Khitans,a minority in the northern regions of ancient China.The special clothing of the Khitans,with the boots being an essential part of it,is known as the Hu Dress.As the society advances to a higher level,the shoes become an integral part of the dressing culture as well.As an important bearer of the lifestyle and dressing culture of that time,the boots and shoes give foll expression to every aspects of the Liao society.The boots and shoes are not only an efficient way to protect the feet,but also an necessity of people's production and daily life,especially to the Khitans who live on a nomadic way of life.Apart from this,the rituals on dressing the boots and the shoes are an significant symbol of differentiating social classes.The research object of thesis is mainly about the entiy of shoes and boots in Liao Dynasty,and its historical mural,and a systematic research about Liao's shoes and boots culture.This thesis can be divided into four parts.First of all,with the efforts of pleliminary work in including data collectionand sorting,the thesis elaborates the source of information to us clearly.What more in order to support the literature review of this thesis,the author also analyzes the objects of this thesis from many aspects including its sorts,material,style and so on.Third,based on the above research of literature,the author has a brief summary on its production steps and decoration techniques.Finally,the author of this thesis has a exporation and discussion on social culture and life in detail.
