As one of the most representative writers in Chinese contemporary literary arena,Su Tong and his novels have been receiving full attentions since the mid-to-late1980's,particularly those research achievements that use “southern Yangtze region”as an entry point are countless.It should be noted that most scholarly pursuits consider Southern Yangtze Region in Su Tong's novels as an individual frequently but overlook the hidden traditional narration of southern Yangtze region.As a narrative tradition with regional feature,traditional narration of southern Yangtze region has transmuted and swerved under the influence of both outer and inner factors since it emerged.Especially after the Chinese New Period Literature,traditional narration of southern Yangtze region has had a profound impact on several literature ideological trends and some authors with their works that appears since 1980's.Su Tong's novel writing is influenced by traditional narration of southern Yangtze region deeply as well as Su Tong and his novels counteract to traditional narration of southern Yangtze region and produces positive impact on its development in future.For this purpose,the thesis takes traditional narration of southern Yangtze region as point of discussion to explain the value and literary significance of traditional narration of southern Yangtze region in Su Tong's novels.The paper mainly falls into three parts.The first part is to analyze the transmutation orbit and significance of traditional narration of southern Yangtze region since the birth of Republic literature in 1949,explaining the inheritance of 's novels from traditional narration of southern Yangtze region to genetics extent and exploring the promotion of Su Tong's novels from traditional narration of southern Yangtze region in virtue of concrete works.The second part tries to discuss the textual construction and its approach of Su Tong's novels on traditional narration of southern Yangtze region from three perspective of imagination with fictional nature,logistical arrangements and novel thought connotation.The third part takes short stories “Blessings” with “Arrowhead”,and novels “River Bank” with “Sandalwood Penalty ”as comparative objects,demonstrating the similarities and differences in novel writing between Su Tong and earlier southern Yangtze region writers Lu Xun with contemporary north regional narrative representative Mo Yan.And on this basis,the thesis explores the contemporary literary significance of traditional narration of Southern Yangtze region in Su Tong's novels.The research of traditional narration of Southern Yangtze region in Su Tong's novels will contribute to realize the value of Su Tong's novels as well as writer's creation intention and purpose.In addition,the research of traditional narration of southern Yangtze region also provide referable perspective and several preconditions of theoretical discussion for analysis of the contemporary Chinese writers and writings of the contemporary Chinese literature.
