As the two core characters of family education,parents play an important role in the growth and development of children.The purpose of this study is to study the level of self differentiation of parents based on Bowen’s family system theory,and to investigate the difference between father and mother’s self differentiation and parenting style and their relationship with their children’s social adaptation,and to compare the differences between father and mother’s self differentiation and parenting style on children’s social adaptation.This study used the method of parent-child paired sampling,the questionnaire survey was carried out in the family of three middle school students in Hunan Province.Parents completed the self differentiation Questionnaire Revised Version(DSI-R),students completed the Chinese version of the Parenting Style Assessment Scale(EMBU)and the social adaptability scale for middle school students.A total of 400 sets of questionnaires were put out,and valid questionnaires were collected in 238 sets.This study used SPSS18.0,variance analysis,correlation analysis,regression analysis and other methods to analyze the data.According to the test procedure of the intermediary effect proposed by Wen Zhonglin,the multiple regression analysis was conducted to test the effect of parenting style.The results are as follows:(1)There were differences in self differentiation between father and mother: the total score of father’s self differentiation was significantly higher than that of the mother,and father’s score in emotional reactivity and fusions with others was significantly higher than that of mother.(2)There were differences between father and mother’s parenting styles:father’s score in strict punishment was significantly higher than that of mother,mother’s score in emotional warmth,excessive interference,preference and denial were significantly higher than that of father.(3)There was a correlation between parental self differentiation,parenting style and children’s social adaptation.(4)Father’s emotional warmth had partial mediating effect on father’s differentiation of self and social adaptation of children,mother’s emotional warmth had partial mediating effect on mother’s self differentiation and social adaptation of children,mother’s rejection had full mediating effects on mother’s self differentiation of social adaptation of children.
