A Study On The Determinatives Of Hieroglyphic Names Of Elephantine

In ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs,behind the words,there are always one or two silent symbols which are used to supplement or to limit the genus of the words.We call this kind of symbols determinatives.The development and change of determinatives themselves also help us better understand the history.Obviously,the hieroglyphic name of Elephantine is a very special case.As the Southgate of ancient Egypt,it played an important role in Egypt's politics,military,economy,culture,religion etc.Also,it was an important barrier to prevent the attacks from Nubian.However,the determinative of its hieroglyphic name often use the symbol.This is an unnormal linguistic phenomenon that necessarily implies the special historical information.Therefore it is necessary for us to research this situation from two aspects: first,to summarize the main roles of Elephantine in the context of the historical development of ancient Egypt;second,study the main role of in the hieroglyphic system which based on the use conditions of the symbol itself.
