A Study On "the West" About Cormac McCarthy's Novel

Cormac McCarthy(1933-)is one of the most prestigious novelist in American.His first western novelBlood Meridian be praised as one of the most outstanding100 English-language in the 20 th century."Border trilogy" harvest the popular tide,the horse was in those days "the national book award" and "national book awards",hereby laid the McCarthy in modern American literary master status.Entering the 21 st century,McCarthy gave the western novel "no country for old men"(2005).The famous American literary critic Harold bloom with Thomas pynchon,don delillo and Philip roth as a contemporary American four heavenly " Kings of novel".McCarthy's novel is mainly focused on the problem such as good and evil,life and death,explore the mysteries of human nature,reveal human nature of the dark,using the great concern and care for human destiny.In the six Chinese translation of McCarthy,five of them are the western novel,occupies an important share.Visible,the study of the western novel of necessity and academic value.This article selects McCarthy's five western novel blood meridian,"border trilogy" and no country for old men as the main research object,trying to explore problems in western McCarthy's novel.This paper is divided into five parts,in the introduction simple introduce McCarthy's life and creation and research status at home and abroad,the first chapter of "what is the western" defining it from two aspects :the geographical and cultural significance,and briefly explain the west of McCarthy's novel;In the second chapter,from the traditional western novel romantic with blood meridian in the bloody massacre in contrast to explore the blood meridian sin "western" in truth,the third chapter analysis "border trilogy" in "western" broken dream;Chapter iv tried to find from the no country for old men break through "western",finally,in conclusion part attempts to clarify the internal logic of works published in time sequence structure analysis of the present connotation of the spirit of "western" and its practical significance,to explore the western McCarthy,the uniqueness of "the west" in the novel,in order to deepen the study of McCarthy,to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the American national character.
