| As a famous contemporary American novelist and playwright,Cormac Mc Carthy was listed as one of the four most important contemporary American novelists by Harold Bloom.Based on Mc Carthy’s novel The Frontier Trilogy,Blood Meridian,No Country For Old Men and The Road as the main research object,from the Retrotopia,Eschatology and humanistic dimensions,points out that Mc Carthy attempts to construct utopia and fight against political narrative.This paper is divided into four main parts:The first chapter introduces Mc Carthy and his works,and makes a detailed review of the research status of Mc Carthy’s works at home and abroad as well as his utopian theory,and clarifies the research framework and significance of this paper.The second chapter first describes Mc Carthy’s nostalgic symbols in The Frontier Trilogy,then elaborates the counter-narrative in Blood Meridian,which is written through violence,and analyzes the hidden text of the Vietnam War.Furthermore,the paper expounds that the atomization of returning to the womb in No Country for Old Men is used to counter consumerism.The above analysis shows Mc Carthy’s construction of Retrotopia in his writing at this stage.The third chapter focuses on Mc Carthy’s transformation work The Road in the postapocalyptic world,and constructs an "eschatological utopia" pointing to the future and hope,while keeping a cautious attitude towards the eschatology which has become the control weapon of state terrorism.The fourth chapter starts from the construction of eschatological utopia.Based on the analysis of the isomorphism between Mc Carthy’s novels and religious texts,it further points out that although Mc Carthy was deeply influenced by eschatology and religious theology,he still went beyond the traditional theology and emphasized the inner strength of human beings.By establishing a community in the love of neighbors and achieving the unity of man and god in death,Mc Carthy points out a path of humanism with inner transcendence,which contains the Mc Carthy’s concern for the fate of human beings in the chaotic and violent American society,and provides the hope of transcending the apocalypse and stepping into the new life. |
