With more Chinese literature winning awards in foreign countries, the translation of Chinese literature has been thriving worldwide. However, there are various problems in Chinese literature translation. With the growth of translation studies as a whole, studies of translation contribute a great deal to literary translation theories but still leave a few crucial problems not well solved. They can be roughly classified as follows: negligence of the integration of parts when individual linguistic items are focused on;ignoring of the dynamic operation involved in the mental process when the static aspects of text analysis are concerned with;lack of consideration of the aesthetic activities when the cognitive modes of the mental activities are taken into account. From above problems,it can be noted that translation process is seen, either from a theoretical standpoint or from an empirical basis,as an indispensable area to translation studies.Aesthetic Progress in Literary Translation: Image-G Actualization, written by Jiang Qiuxia, puts forward an image-gestalt in translation process which is different from the previous translation theories. It focuses on holistic image and representation about images in source text so as to realize the aesthetic experience in the target text.Based on the image-Gestalt actualization theory, the present study,by taking the author's own experience of translating a literary text entitled Wo Men Sa as a case, explores the translation process of literary works so as to reproduce the holistic aesthetic elements of the original text.Firstly, this study will present a description of the translation process and result of the author's translation practice under the guidance of the image-Gestalt actualization theory and their function in character-shaping.Secondly,it will illustrate the translation process in detail from descriptions of dialogue, actions and environment and present the reflections on the translation in order to manage quality control with image-Gestalt actualization theory.Without word-for-word or sentence-for-sentence transaltion, the author pays more attention to building a whole image of the original text and represents the image in target language to keep consistency and achieve harmony. The author pursues that the target text can realize domesticating translation as much as possible to make target readers feel the same aesthetic experience when they read the target text. The study finds that translators will realize the whole transformation both in language information and aesthetic elements by using image-Gestalt actualization theory which guides translators to reproduce the gestalt image in the target language. It is hoped that this study will be both practically and theoretically significant.Practically,it will show that the quality of literary translation can be improved when the translator follows image-Gestalt actualization theory.Theoretically,it will demonstrate that the image-Gestalt actualization theory will guide literary translation.
