| On the stage of world literature,Chinese literature has ushered in the opportunity to show its own charm and been spread and accepted in the larger and wider space-time field.Chinese literature has not only enriched the connotation of world literature, but also promoted the development of China’s own culture and literature.Since Mo Yan won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012,Chinese literature has once more attracted much attention abroad, and Goldblatt,an American Sinologist engaged in translating Mo Yan’s novels for years, has got more than its share of attention from scholars at home and abroad. It is known to us that Sinologist translator group is an important force for the introduction of Chinese Literature in foreign countries. The achievements made by them in both Sinology and translation have been acknowledged by the scholars in the world, but Chinese literature at the same time has to be "reconstructed" inevitably by those sinologists with multiple identities according to the context of western culture.Mo Yan is no exception. For example,by means of the distinctive dialect, the meaningful proverbs, ballads and cultural images in the novel life and death are wearing me out,Mo Yan shows us vividly the vicissitudes in China’s northeast rural areas from 1949 to 2000 for half a century. In the version,Goldblatt not only adjusts the linguistic features of the characters, but also reconstructs the text according to the different functions of the grammatical structures of English proverbs and ballads. In this way Goldblatt highlights the intention of Mo Yanr and conveys successfully the"rural flavor" to the English speaking readers.Transmitting the cultural images in life and death are wearing me out,Goldblatt tries his best to represent the meanings implicitly and explicitly in order to get rid of barriers in reading and retain its style and features.Goldblatt’s translation helps changing the mode of translation of Chinese literature abroad and promotes formulating the canonization of Chinese literary works in foreign countries. The deep-seated reasons why the sinologists are able to translate and introduce many modern and contemporary Chinese novels successfully are that they have been interested and devoted to Chinese literature(culture)for many years. And their multiple cultural identities are formed under the influence of Chinese culture(literature). On the other hand, interlaced, contradictory and multi-cultural identities of the sinologists have had great influence on their translation. The research value of the identity of the sinologists can be seen through mixed evaluation of Chinese scholars. The complexity of the translator’s identity enables them to effectively convey the uniqueness of Chinese culture.Their contradictory identities help them find out the universality of literature in the context of world literature in the process of translation so as to establish effective dialogue and exchanges between original author, original texts, translator and target readers in different dimensions, promoting the spread of Chinese culture(literature)abroad.By combing external translation history of Chinese culture from the framework of world literature,we can more clearly understand the problem in communication of different cultures, and sinologist translators group, how to shuttle between different context to comprehensively cope with and effective communicate factors such as original writer, original, target reader and translator itself in the case of construction of different identity and contradiction organization.Successful external translation of Chinese culture(literature)shall be marked with realizing real and successful construction of Chinese culture(literature)in the environment of foreign culture.Contradiction of sinologist identity has a significance of research to be reckoned, because their restless try in translation practice provides reference for our local translators, and update the outmoded, rigid impression of overseas Chinese translation, promotes Chinese literature to go globally, better activating cultural ecosystem of world literature. |
