Mo Yan is a root-searching literature writer, and Life And Death Are Wearing Me Out is one of Mo Yan’s masterpiece. The work fully reflects his writing style and it is popular among readers. The English version translated by the American translator Howard Goldblatt, has gained a readers’ praise at home and abroad since it was published in 2008. Up to now, domestic and foreign scholars mostly study the Chinese work.Eco-translatology theory is put forward by Hu Gengshen, and the theory is a kind of new research perspective for translation study. It blends the translation and ecology effectively and further explains the essence of Eco-translatology theory. The main concept of Eco-translatology is that Eco-translatology is a study of translation from the perspective of ecology. With putting the translation activities in the whole translational environment, he stresses the importance of the translational environment and the central role of the translator. Hu Gengshen thinks that translation is as selection and adaption. The thesis applies the Eco-translatology of Professor Hu Gengshen as researching theory so as to analyze the English version of Life And Death Are Wearing Me Out.In this thesis, under the guidance of Eco-translatology theory framework, the author analyzes translational environment which includes the original author, the source text, the translator, and the target text, and the translator conducts three dimensional transformations to have an analysis of selection and adaption of the translator in translational environment in the process of translation from linguistic, cultural, and communicative dimensions.This thesis aims to analyze the English version of Life And Death Are Wearing Me Out from three-dimensional transformation and reflect the translator’s adaption and selection for making adaptions to the translational environment. Moreover, the conclusion is made that Eco-translatology is successfully conducted in the Howard Goldblatt’s translation of Life And Death Are Wearing Me Out, and this thesis opens up a new way of studying Howard Goldblatt and his translations as well as provides a new perspective to the studies of the English version of Life And Death Are Wearing Me Out. Howard Goldblatt has been faithful to the source text and spreads Chinese culture with retaining most of the original language style by truly reappearing novel content of the original text, moreover, he fully embodies the selection and adaptation in the process of the translation.
