Between The New And The Old:Feng Shuluan's Drama Commentary

Feng Shuluan was a famous drama critic and dramatic writer in the late Qing Dynasty,in the early days of the cultural sector,especially the theater sector reputation.however,he lost his status in dramatic world for his political stand.But he has played an important role in both traditional Chinese opera and new drama emerged at that time influencing by western culture.Feng himself is a famous traditional Chinese dramatist,in addition to advocating traditional Chinese opera theoretically and practically,he also found the value of traditional drama in the process of comparing the two types of opera.He insisted that traditional drama cannot be abolished,but can be modified to some extent.Through those efforts,he found a new way for the storage and development of traditional drama,which has provided the promise for the inheritance and development of opera art.Meanwhile,he considered the modem trend of that time,took part in the practice of the new drama actively,compiled new drama,participated in many new drama groups and starred in new dramas,introduced and popularized new drama as a traditional dramatist,those activities contributed a lot to the development of new drama in China.On the basis of reading a lot of relevant materials,this paper combs Feng's drama activities and multiple drama identities,and analyzes the number of drama reviews on the basis of this,so as to examine the background of the influx of western culture.So we can analyses his complex attitude of drama,the special characteristics of his drama and the influence of exotic culture factors in his drama commentary.The introduction part of this paper mainly introduces the existing research background and the significance of the topic,the research method and the innovation of the thesis writing.The first chapter of this article is a relatively comprehensive outline of Feng Shuluan's identity,which shows that he has participated extensively in the activities of the new and old plays and played an important role in his multiple identities.The second chapter of this paper analyzes the complex attitude of Feng 's commentary under the influence of double cultural background and the characteristics of his drama.This paper focuses on his attitude to the old drama in the drama improving movement and his controversy with the new cultural movement.This paper advocats on the development of the old drama and the development of new drama,emphasizing that his guard for the old drama is not rigidly stuck.The protagonist of the old drama and its admiration for the new play and some extent coexist.Then,the author analyzes the characteristics of the drama commentary under the influence of the new and old cultures.First of all,the performance of the drama reflects comprehensive dramatic scenes of the early opera,with valuable literature and historical value.Second,his critics also showed special attention to the new play and the old script.Finally,his critics also have a very obvious comparative view of new drama and old drama.The third chapter of this paper mainly analyzes Chinese and Western cultural systems' influence on Feng's notion and theory of drama,in the era of culture clash.His works showed the characteristics of that time.This paper analyses those exotic influences embodied in Feng's drama commentary article.Those dramatic evaluations of the exotic factor reflect his initiative to learn from the West,which is not only a useful attempt to create modern drama,but also a strong evidence that Feng tried hard to get Chinese and foreign drama communicated with each other.In addition,the introduction of the western drama history,the western dramatist and the western cinema possess not only the vision of modern time,but also a background of the development of Chinese drama,and there is also a sense of comparing with Chinese drama,which are all very valuable.The concluding section briefly summarizes the full text.,Appendix III:Feng Shuluan novel catalog,the first part of the article.Appendix 4:Feng ShuLuan translation works directory,Appendix 5:Feng Shuluan other works directory.
