Since the "Going-Global" strategy of Chinese culture, many cultural products have been introduced overseas, responsible for promoting Chinese culture and external communication. Some of these products are not widely accepted by the target audience.A Chinese dating show If You Are the One(IYATO)was exported to Australia SBS in 2013 and soon became the most popular foreign program ever.Maintaining its original sound with English subtitles,IYATO is translated by a subtitler of SBS subtitling department,Han Jing.Subtitles are the only bridge that connects English viewers with the program. The translation strategies adopted would determine the acceptability of If You Are the One and whether Chinese elements could reach foreign viewers.Based on Jan Pedersen's theory on TV subtitling strategies, this thesis adopts descriptive translation research approaches to analyze specific translation strategies used in dealing with proper nouns and buzz words, manifesting its impromptu and dialoge-based features, while maintaining its entertaining effects. The author also interviewed the subtitler on pragmatic translation issues. This thesis finds out that the subtitles of this show are target language-oriented.Focusing on the quality and acceptability of the translation, the subtitler has used multiple translation strategies in order to achieve effective communication and at the same time transfer Chinese culture to target audiences. These strategies make IYATO successful in Australia. They can also provide suggestions and guidance for future subtitle translations to achieve better communication effects.
