Translator,as the subject of translation, began to meet with greater attention, after the“cultural turn” of translation study appeared in 1970 s,which made translator's subjectivity an essential part of translation theory.Originated from 18 th century, feminist translation theory boldly challenges the traditional translation standpoints: fidelity to original text and invisible translator, this theory redefines “fidelity” as faithful to the “writing project” both involved in the author and translator, brings the factor of gender consciousness into translator's subjectivity, highlights the significance of translator's subjectivity in the translation process. This thesis takes two Chinese translation versions of The Color Purple as example, aiming at studying the translator's subjectivity from the perspective of feminism translation.Based on corpus-based quantitative analysis and example-based qualitative analysis, this thesis compares the two Chinese translation versions from aspects of words choice, subtitle translation, footnoting, body and sex description. This thesis mainly generalizes questions as follows:1)For the same original text, whether the female and male translators show the gender consciousness in same degree?2)From the perspective of feminist translation, how do male and female translators manifest their subjectivity? The result shows that the female translator Lu Shujiang expresses higher female consciousness in the translation process, and she has a better understanding of the female character's thoughts. Her translation fully conveys the female character's growth from both mind and body perspectives, and highlights female characters' rights and status through using a series of translation strategies in translation process.Due to deep influence of patriarchal society and lack of enough female consciousness, male translator Yang Renjing tends to translate neutrally, even sometimes conveys a misunderstanding meaning to target readers compared with original meaning.
