At present,English is a compulsory course for college students. Each one has to take English course for at least one or two years, during which a large number of them have suffered psychological burnout(ie,English learning burnout). This negative learning psychology and attitude will undoubtedly have bad influence on students' learning achievement as well as their physical and mental health. In recent years,Chinese scholars have begun to pay attention to English learning burnout and also conducted lots of empirical studies.Fruitful achievements have been achieved but there also exist some limitations and shortcomings, one of which is that many researchers explore the reasons for English learning burnout from learners' internal aspect.Few are from the perspective of external environment. For Chinese students, there is no such advantageous environment as native speakers.Classroom is the main place where English learning takes place. Therefore, classroom environment becomes the main external factor that can affect English learning outcomes. Thus, this study is to explore the potential relationship between classroom environment and English learning burnout and aims to answer the following three questions:1)What's students' perception of their college English classroom environment and how's their English learning burnout?2)Is students' perception of college English classroom environment related to English learning burnout? If yes, what is it?3)Does there exist any significant differences in each dimension of English learning burnout between students with high, medium and low perception of classroom environment? If yes, what are they?In order to answer the above questions, the author investigated 101 non-English majors of North University of China and adopted questionnaires,semi-structured interviews and classroom observation to collect data. The data is then processed with the help of Excel and SPSS 20.0.The results indicate: 1)Students' perception of college English classroom environment and their English learning burnout are both at medium level;2)There exists negative correlation between the perception of college English classroom environment and English learning burnout.Among the nine dimensions of college English classroom environment,it is mainly the dimensions of students responsibility, teacher support, equality, task orientation, teachers' leadership, teachers' innovation and involvement that exert great influence on the dimensions of exhaustion and cynicism of English learning burnout;3)The difference in each dimension of English learning burnout is more significant between high and low perception groups than that betweenhigh and moderate perception group as well as between moderate and low perception group. The research results provides useful pedagogical implications, that is,teachers should give students more emotional support in both their life and study, pay attention to teaching equality to stimulate their learning motivation;design and organize learning tasks that can not only provoke their interest but also improve their English achievement so as to encourage them to take active parts in classroom activities;innovate their teaching methods and inject constant learning energy for students.Meanwhile, customized countermeasures should be adopted according to different perception of classroom environment so as to help relieve and prevent English learning burnout.
