The Study On The Translation Strategies Of "The Dream Of Red Mansions" From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Translation strategy refers to the translator in the process of dealing with the source language into the target language in the face of different cultural differences,the method adopted,there are two kinds of “domestication” and “foreignization”.The study of "domestication" and "foreignization",it has been a controversial topic in translation circles.Through the analysis of the existing research results of translation strategies,we find that scholars tend to study the two strategies,advocated the election of one of its translation.But the purpose of translation will influence the translator's choice of translation strategies,so,what are the influences of the purpose of translation on the choice of translation strategies?This paper takes the typical example of the first eighty chapters of “The dream of Red Mansions”as the research object,on the basis of drawing lessons from previous research results,selection of food,architecture,interior decoration,clothing,religion and other words with strong cultural background,from the perspective of Skopos theory,the thesis discusses the problem of “domestication” and “foreignization”.The study found that in the process of translation,the translator does not simply tend to domestication or foreignization,but according to the needs of the purpose of translation,flexible choice of “domestication “or “ foreignization",in the face of the lack of part of the cultural phenomenon,the translator adopts the domesticating translation strategy,in order to help readers understand the character of the original expression,religious culture and other information,the translator will also adopt foreignizing translation strategies.It can be seen that in translation,we cannot choose the domestication or foreignization strategy,however,different translation strategies should be selected according to different translation purposes,in order to achieve the desired effect.
