Shen Zhou is not only a pioneer of “Wu School of Painting”,but also is a representative of outstanding artists in the Mid-Ming Dynasty.He is involved in all fields of the art,and his painting art presents a unique feature of the literati painting,exerting huge influence on the future generations.A significant number of masters have drawn inspirations and absorbed nutrition from him.Experts both at home and abroad have conducted numerous research on Shen Zhou's landscape painting works and obtained obvious research results.Therefore,this paper will focus on analyzing the artistic features of his flower and bird painting works.Shen Zhou's flower and bird painting works have many forms and various themes with flexible and variable compositions and skillful painting techniques,which shows his keen mind and intelligence;in shape,the distinctiveness of his attention to the sketch proved his courage in innovation;elegance in the use of color has inevitability either from the perspectives of historical background or personal aesthetic tendency.Shen Zhou's exploration of flower and bird painting is pioneering.He embodied the ideal state of two identities as a painter and a scholar.“Hiding away from the world” and “going into the world” are so harmony and balanced,which is really admired by people.Shen Zhou's own characteristics and the unique charm of flower and bird paintings undoubtedly provide us with more inspirations in the painting,and therefore the reading and analysis on Shen Zhou's flower and bird paintings are meaningful and of significance.
