At present,China's elderly population is also increasing,to cope with the aging population,concerned about the development of the elderly physical and mental development has become an important issue.There are many needs of the elderly,so the current society should not only meet the material needs of the elderly,but also should pay attention to the psychological needs of the elderly,especially their own cognitive and development needs.At this stage more and more older people through reading to meet their own cognitive needs.However,with age,the cognitive function of the elderly was declining,which had a negative impact on the reading behavior of the elderly.The study of reading psychology shows that illustration as an auxiliary clue to the article has an important effect on the effect of reading.This research combined the reading performance of readers with the condition that records the eye movement of the reading process by eye tracking technique.Experiments used 2(Degree of difficulty:Difficulty&Easy)x 2(Presentation format:Proximity&Separation)Two-factor mixed experiment design and screened out 40 subjects by using the visual acuity chart and the cognitive ability scale.Every subject was randomly assigned in the two different experimental conditions:near presentation and separation presentation and they read two short science essays with different degrees of difficulty in the course of the experiment,and each article was equipped with the corresponding illustrations.During the reading process,the Tobii TX300 eye tracker was used to record the eye movement data of the subjects,and subjects needed to answer the test questions related to the content of article after reading the article.The research showed that:(1)When learning easy materials,pictures and text appear near the case,the learning effect is better with higher reading memories test scores and smaller pupil diameter and cognitive load.(2)When reading materials are more difficult,the subjects tend to combine pictures and text content together to understand and memorize.(3)Presentation of the materials may affect the distribution of subjects' attention,and the picture could be quickly noted by subjects to understand the article when they are presented near the articles.(4)Text-based reading modes are shown at each condition,and the picture is.only used as a supplement to work.
