Study On Asymmetry Of "East/West"

Symmetry and asymmetry are very common phenomena in linguistics,especially the asymmetry of a pair of corresponding antonyms has been paid more and more attention by scholars."East/West" is a very common set of antonyms in modern Chinese,but so far there has not been a special study on the asymmetry of "East/West" This article takes "East/west" as the research object,guided by the theory of markedness and cognitive linguistics,this paper makes a systematic description and study of the asymmetry of”East/West" from three aspects of word meaning,word formation and combination,and analyzes the causes of "East/west"asymmetry.The thesis is divided into five chapters:The first chapter of the introduction of this chapter is divided into five parts:the first part,explain the reasons for this article and the purpose of meaning.In the second part,the paper introduces the present situation of domestic and foreign research.In the third part,the object and scope of this paper are determined.In the fourth to fifth part,the paper introduces the research method and the source of the corpus.Chapter two analyses the asymmetry of the meaning of "East/West".This chapter is divided into two parts:the first part,the "East/west" of the number of the key points,comparative analysis.The second part,from the diachronic point of view,respectively,the " East/West" their respective meanings of the evolution of a systematic analysis.through correlation analysis,the conclusion is that:"East/West" in the number of senses "West" more than "East","East/West"the extension of the word meaning and extension of the scope of asymmetry;East/West "the emotional color of the meaning of the word has asymmetry;the time of" East/West "is asymmetric;the range of the visual angle of" East/West "is asymmetric.The third chapter”ast/West" word formation asymmetry analysis.This chapter is divided into three parts,the first part of the "East/west" of the word-formation of the specific number of the comparative analysis,here mainly includes two subsections,the first section,from the"East/west" The meaning of the total amount of the word to make a comparative analysis.In the second section,the asymmetry of "East/West" is described from the comparative analysis of the quantity of the "East/west" four groups of meanings.In the second part,it analyzes the asymmetry of the form of "East/West",this part mainly from the "East/West" form symmetry and"East/West”form asymmetrical two aspects of the analysis,form symmetry,including 1.Form symmetry,meaning symmetry 2.Form symmetry,the meaning is not completely symmetrical 3.The form is symmetrical,the meaning is completely asymmetrical 4.The reference point and the form meaning asymmetry four kinds of situations,the form asymmetry,also includes has "the East" not "the West" class and has "AWes" the "East" class two kinds of situation.In the third part,we analyze the asymmetry of the "East/West" Construction word order,which also includes "East/west" as the asymmetric words,"East/West" in idioms,sayings in the word order asymmetry,in the fixed name "East/West","East" "South" "West" "North"connected with the "East/west" structure of the asymmetrical four aspects.Through correlation analysis,the conclusion is that "East" and "West" are more than "West" in the total amount of word-formation "East" and "West" have obvious asymmetry in the number of the opposite senses;"East/West" form symmetrical 92 groups,there are 74 groups of meaning symmetry,there are 9 groups,"East/West" form asymmetrical total of 208 groups,including "East" West"has 112 groups,there are" West "no" East "there are 96 groups;" East/West "is participating in fixed name,idioms,sayings and compound words when word formation is asymmetrical,"East" "West" "South" "North" even when the "East" "West" construction word order is asymmetric.Chapter fourth asymmetry of "East/West" combination.There is only one part of this chapter,the asymmetry of "East/West" and verb combination.Through the correlation analysis,and then concluded that when the expression "Vise" righteousness,can only use "East",cannot use"West",when means "descend,sinking" righteousness,can only use "West",cannot use "East".Chapter Fifth "East/West" asymmetry phenomenon analysis.This chapter is divided into two parts,the first part,from the language internal analysis of "East/West" asymmetry reasons.In the second part,the reasons of"East/West" Asymmetry are analyzed from the outside of language.Through correlation analysis,it is concluded that the internal asymmetry of "East""West" language is mainly manifested in the asymmetry of the antisense field and the imbalance of the "East" "West" language benefit,"the external asymmetry of East" West"language is mainly manifested in two aspects of cognitive and cultural factors.
