The Study Of The Thinking Mode By Adopting Symbols In Tao Yuanming's Pastoral Poems

The thinking mode of adopting symbols produced and widely adopted in Yi Jing,work of ancient Chinese philosophy,is one of the traditional Chinese way of thinking.Because this kind of thinking mode has never been interrupted,as the logical basis of Bi and Xing in the classical poetry,the thinking mode of adopting symbols is within inheritance and development.Tao Yuanming's pastoral poems came from Jin and Song dynasties.Although the academics don't have a definite conclusion on pastoral poems'connotation at present,based on the related information and on the basis of previous studies,this thesis uses the generalized concept and defines Tao Yuanming's pastoral poems as those poems reflecting countryside and farmers' lives and describing the poet's idyllic life.There are 52 poems in total.It is important to note that the thinking mode of adopting symbols is used in Tao Yuanming's pastoral poems,and techniques are skillful.The thesis is divided into five parts.The first chapter is introduction,which mainly introduces the purpose of the thesis,significance,research status,research scope and methods.The second chapter is a summary of Tao Yuanming's pastoral poems and the thinking mode of adopting symbols.Concretely,this chapter Elaborates on basic situations containing the definition of Tao Yuanming's pastoral poems,content,writing motivation and the concept of the thinking mode of adopting symbols and its relationship with Bi and Xing.The third chapter classifies the adopting symbols in Tao Yuanming's pastoral poems.Generally,the adopting symbols are divided into two categories—images of the nature and images of residence and the image of products.The former can be subdivided into the image of plants,the image of animals and the image of season and climate.These categories show the use of the thinking mode of adopting symbols is one of the salient features in Tao Yuanming's pastoral poems.The fourth chapter analyzes the application of this thinking mode.With the help of this thinking mode,Tao Yuanming express aspirations of retiring from political life and cultivation and his carefree and comfortable state when living in poverty.Some poets describes the fun of cultivation and staying idle at home.Some take pity on ramshackle countryside while signing the impermanence of life.Besides,a part of these poets write poets'magnanimous mind of not being afraid death and of magnanimous mind,pursuit of ideal life.The thinking mode of adopting symbols has become the important link of Tao Yuanming and pastoral poems.The fifth chapter discusses pastoral poems in the early period of Tang Dynasty under the influence of the thinking mode of adopting symbols in Tao's poets,mainly combined with some poets' pastoral poems such as Wang Ji,Lu Zhaolin and Song Zhiwen to do a longitudinal analysis,and pointing out the inheritance and further development of the thinking mode of adopting symbols.Based on Tao's 52 poems,there is certain cognitive value of the thinking mode of adopting symbols in this thesis.There're some limits of the quantity and categories of the adopting symbols,but its significance lies in revealing rules of analog and association successfully used as a new visual angle through the analysis of Tao Yuanming's pastoral poems.Meanwhile,it can offer beneficial reference for the study of other poems.
