With the rapid development of science and technology, people's living standards have improved significantly. However, people are exposed to more chemicals than ever before, which cause diseases and even death. They are not only harmful to adults but also bad for children.Pregnant women exposed to the chemicals will cause damage to their babies' heath, especially to the neurological system.Exposure to some chemicals may make children suffer from neurodevelopmental disorders, such as autism, learning disabilities, and intellectual disability. With more research has studied in this area which come from western researchers,it seems that the translation of research achievements from abroad would be worthwhile.Often, difficulties in translation show in the differences between the culture and language of the source text and target text.Articles in this field, both in English and Chinese, have their own language features, professional knowledge and cultural background, which require comprehensive study. This is a report of the English – Chinese translation practice of a published book Environmental Hazards and Neurodevelopment-Where Ecology and Well-Being Connect which is a medical science text.In the report, based on the guidance of Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory in translation, the author of this report analyses the problems she encountered from three aspects, including lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level.Meanwhile she also uses translation methods to help solving the problems, including division and nominalization. In this translation practice, the author has learned a lot.First, medical text features are succinct in style and use many technical terms;second,Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory and other translation methods play an essential role in translation;third, translation needs patience and professional knowledge.
