| With the increasing development of economic globalization,exchanges between countries in th e political,economic,and cultural aspects are also becoming increasingly frequent.T he importance of healthcare globalization is becoming more and more apparent as breakout of COVID-19.During this period of active cooperation and exchange between countries all over the world in the fields of medical technology,medical translation has played an essential role in bridging the gap.These challenges and the development of medical translation are complementary and mutually reinforcing.In this translation report,Guideline for Technical Review for the Establishment of Evaluation Methods and the Characterization of Unspecified or Unknown Leachables of Medical Devices comes from the author’s internship translation company.Based on Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory and combined with the characteristics of medical texts,the feasibility of Functional Equivalence Theory in medical text translation is demonstrated from three aspects:lexical equivalence,syntactic equivalence,and textual equivalence.In this translation practice report,the translator gives a brief overview of the translation content an d translation process,analyzes the content and characteristics of the source text,and illustrates the application of functional equivalence theory in medical translation through specific examples.In the whole translation process,at the lexical level,the translator mainly discusses the translation of medical terminology,acronyms,and verbs to realize the correct expression and the effective transmission of objective content.At the syntactic level,due to the wide differences in the logical order and sentence structure characteristics between Chinese and English,the translator mainly explores the translation of passive,non-subject,and long and complicated sentences in medical texts.At the discourse level,this report mainly explores the cohesion and coherence of discourse in translation,so that the target readers can obtain the same reading effect as the source readers while accurately conveying the information of the source text.Through this translation practice,the translator has found that the functional equivalence theory could serve as the guide for the medical translation.The translator expects this practice report to be useful to medical students and health professionals.At the same time,the author hopes that this report on the practice of translation could be used as a reference by medical translators. |
